Good afternoon and a happy Valentines Day! A beautiful day across the Smokies but further west cloud cover is quickly filling in. This will be the case for the next few days, as a potent low pressure system approaches the area. Sunny skies will turn cloudy to eventually showery as the associated cold front draws near. As far as today, it'll be a warm one with highs in the low 60s. Cloud cover will continue increasing, leading to isolated and scattered showers overnight. Breezy southwest winds should be expected the next couple of days. With the low and cold front on its way, the Storm Prediction Center has highlighted a risk for severe storms. The timing of this comes Thursday morning to early afternoon, before cooler temperatures follow Friday. The primarily threat will be damaging wind gusts but a lone tornado can't be entirely ruled out. Timing wise, there is still some uncertainty but generally the bulk of stronger activity will be overnight Wednesday and through the first half of the day Thursday. Stay weather aware and tune back in for updates. Timing will play an important role with this system. Looking at the play by play, isolated to scattered showers will be possible tonight and through Wednesday. By Wednesday night, a line of showers and storms will take shape ahead of the approaching front. This line will slide east, pushing through East Tennessee into Thursday. As mentioned, timing is important and any changes could bring a slightly better chance for storms or a lesser chance. With the front out and through by late Thursday, much cooler air will filter in Friday. Highs will plummet 20+ degrees, where highs only peak in the low 40s. This will fortunately be short lived, as temperatures climb back northward through the weekend. Pre-recorded for 5pm weather broadcast

Cloud cover increases today but dry conditions stay in tact. Winds will be breezy at times as a cold front approaches, with gusts up to 20 mph possible. Showers hold off until later tomorrow, with the best chances Wednesday night into early Thursday. Pre-recorded for 5 pm broadcast
Quiet and pleasant to start the day off as temperatures (10:30 am) range from the low to mid 40s. We will continue our warming trend, with highs this afternoon peaking in the mid and upper 50s. Sunshine will also stick around, with nearly no clouds across the whole state this morning. That said, high clouds will begin filling back in late this afternoon and in through the overnight hours. Temperatures will continue warming through mid week, but showers take shape once again. An approaching cold front will bring increased cloud cover tonight and Tuesday, before showers find the area Wednesday and Wednesday night. The bulk of rainfall will be across the Mid Mississippi Valley, but up to a quarter of an inch is possible across East Tennessee. The bulk of activity will come Wednesday and Wednesday night, but isolated shower chances can't be ruled out Thursday and Friday as well. That will round out this forecast...things will generally stay quiet and warm through Wednesday, before showers along a cold front bring cooler temperatures Friday and into the weekend.
Chilly today, but warmer temperatures are coming! We also stay dry through early next week, with our next system not arriving until later Tuesday and into Wednesday, Enjoy! Good morning! I hope you are staying dry out there as pockets of moderate to heavy showers move through this morning. This could negatively impact the morning commute with ponding of roadways and reduced visibilities. Fortunately, this should begin to move out towards lunchtime, with activity coming to a close by mid afternoon. Thereafter, gradually clearing skies will allow for sunshine to return Friday and into the weekend. With that said, temperatures (though already cool) will be even colder to close out the work week tomorrow. Highs will be lucky to crack the 40 degree mark, with then moderating temperatures through early next week. As far as unsettled weather ahead, we begin to quiet back down. After this ripple of showers today, high pressure brings warming temperatures and abundant sunshine for the next several days. A weak passing disturbance Sunday will bring cloud cover but generally most stay dry. Our next real rainfall maker doesn't arrive until Tuesday and into midweek. After an overall chilly week, much warmer temperatures are coming. Check out how things compare to averages for this time of the year on Monday. Most will top out 10 to 15 degrees above average. This will equate to highs in the mid to upper 50s, with some even crossing 60. Most of next week will be well above average and comfortable with highs in the 50s and 60s each day. That will do it for today, keep the winter coats around another day or two before shedding that for the arrival of warmer air later this weekend and next week.
