A quick moving system arrives tonight, bringing widespread rainfall to East Tennessee. As colder air filters in, a brief transition to wintry mix is possible late tonight/early Sat, with the higher terrain having the highest probability. As such, the plateau and foothills could see light snowfall accumulations, while only a few wet flakes are expected here in the valley. Skies clear back up through Saturday, with sunshine in full force Sunday to early next week. Much cooler air finds us tomorrow, with highs in the low 40s, followed by mid and upper 40s Sunday, and back above average into the upcoming work week. Pleasant one more day, before showers arrive late Friday into early Saturday. Highs will be warm once more, topping out in the upper 50s and low 60s. Widespread showers along and ahead of a front arrive Friday night, with some mixing of snow across the area by early Saturday morning. Little to no accumulations expected in the plateau to foothills, with no impacts at all expected here in the valley. Cooler temperatures should be expected following the front, Saturday, with highs through the weekend in the 40s. Warmer air then returns through early next week. Another gorgeous day ahead, with mostly sunny skies and highs above average. Dry weather continues into Thursday, before cloud cover increases the latter half of the day and through Friday. An approaching cold front will allow for showers to overspread the area by Friday evening/night, with a brief transition to wintry mix possible for some Friday night into Saturday morning. With colder air building in behind the boundary, those in the higher terrain that can better tap into this changing air mass will have the best opportunity for wintry mix, while valley locations will generally see a few wet flakes without consequence. Higher terrain locations (plateau/foothills) could see light accumulations into Saturday morning. As hinted at, temperatures to be much cooler behind this system, with highs in the 40s both Saturday and Sunday. Pre-recorded for 5pm weather broadcast
After a soggy past few days, some much needed drier air and sunshine return. High pressure will allow for sunny skies and warming air through Thursday, before our next system approaches late week/into the weekend. This next round could bring us both rain and some wintry mix, followed by much cooler air. Highs this weekend will fall near to below seasonal norms, in the 40s. Have a good one, enjoy the sunshine and warmer air in the days to come, and don't miss our video forecast below. Pre-recorded for 5pm weather broadcast
Multiple rounds of rainfall and a few isolated thunderstorms possible today through Monday. The heaviest and most consistent rainfall comes Saturday through Sunday, where flooding/flash flooding is a concern. Prepare now and have a way to receive alerts (watches/warnings) if issued. Rainfall amounts are expected to vary between 2 and 4 inches, with locally higher amounts within thunderstorms or repeated rainfall. Drier conditions eventually return Tuesday into mid next week. Good morning! Dry through the bulk of the day, but showers will eventually arrive tonight into Friday. From then on, expect an unsettled/active pattern with several disturbances crossing the area. There will be a low end risk of flooding/flash flooding, especially within any thunderstorms or repeated rainfall we see. Use this time to plan now if in flood prone areas, as we will keep you updated on the timing and rainfall amounts. At this time, the axis of higher precipitation has shifted a little further north, where around an inch is possible for northern locations and nearer to 3 inches is possible in the far south near the Georgia border (Friday through Monday). Remaining "high and dry" again today, but changes are looming. An area of low pressure will approach the region late work week, bringing increased cloud cover tonight through Thursday. Showers eventually increase in chance Thursday night through Friday and the start of the weekend, with a second disturbance rounding through the area Sunday into early next week. Heavy rainfall, particularly if any thunderstorms develop, will be possible. Rainfall amounts between the two systems remains between 1 to 2 inches, with locally higher amounts possible. We start off this morning mild, with many ranging in the upper 20s to mid 30s. The good news: we will warm up rather quickly once more, with highs this afternoon in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees. Dry weather will prevail now through much of Thursday, before an approaching system brings rainfall chances Thursday night through Friday. Activity will linger into Saturday, followed by another disturbance arriving late Saturday night into Sunday. Rainfall amounts, as of right now, look to vary between 1 to 2 inches (Thursday through Monday), with locally higher amounts possible within any thunderstorms. Enjoy the dry weather and sunshine for now, and have the umbrellas handy for the late week and weekend. Pre-recorded for 5pm weather broadcast
Good morning! Dealing with some high clouds across East Tennessee now, but these will continue to slide south and out of the area by late morning. This will set up plenty of sunshine into this afternoon, paired with well above average temperatures. Highs to peak in the upper 50s to low 60s, with more sunshine and seasonable warm air moving forward. Dry weather will last until later Thursday, when our next approaching disturbance brings shower chances Thursday night into Friday, followed by additional chances through the weekend. Happy Groundhog's Day! We will veer warm the next 7 to 10 days, with dry weather until late this weekend. A few isolated showers will be possible, primarily south of Interstate 40, before dry weather again finds us later Monday and into mid next week. Enjoy the warmth! Groundhog Phil predicted Spring, which looks accurate for now, but changes in the pattern back to winter will be possible the second half of the month. Video created as of 11:15 am 2/2/2024
