Good afternoon! Current temperatures across the region (as of 1:20 pm) are in the mid to upper 80's. As we work further into the afternoon, temperatures will increase a few degrees to top out in the upper 80's, near 90.

As we look at our modeled data, one may assume lots of rain is in the forecast. However, models have trouble assessing where showers might pop up during this time of the year, so take models with lots of discretion. In all actuality, expect much of the same as we have had. Afternoon isolated storms popping up (primarily in the higher elevations & to our south) and carrying over into the valley. As I mentioned, not everyone will get wet each day but over the next few days, there's a chance you'll experience a rumble of thunder or two. Looking ahead into this weekend, a high pressure system has been stationed to our north in the Ohio Valley for a number of days (hence the drier conditions we have been having). As we move further into the weekend, a low pressure system will meander from the south bringing with it rain chances. Our best day for rain will be Sunday. Showers and a few rumbles of thunder are likely with this next system. Overall, this next rainmaker will not be too impactful leaving us with up to half an inch of rain late Saturday, Sunday, and into Monday. I am not anticipating any severe potential, just light to moderate on-and-off showers. We will have a better idea as time gets closer.

As we arrive into the "Dog Days of Summer", temperatures ahead look rather average. For this time of the year, common highs are in the upper 80's, around 90 degrees. Below is the latest graphic from the Climate Prediction Center showing both normal temperatures and precipitation for mid August.
